The Griffon's Palace is a location in Splitpaw.
Description[]
The Griffon's Palace is a large, abandoned palace. Within the palace there is a labyrinth where our group of mercenaries embark on their quest to find the Splitpaw Atlas.
According to Melody, the Griffon's Labyrinth has a musical legend surrounding it. It is: "Not everything is as it seems, walk through walls to reach the king." Her knowledge of this legend is what helps the group out of the labyrinth to discover the Splitpaw Atlas.
There is an abundance of water at this palace as it is built on the edge of what looks like a waterfall. There's also an abundance of crystals that have the power to explode after contact with water, and crystals that exhibit electrifying abilities. The inhabitants of this palace seem to have been intelligent considering their architectural standpoint, written language, and the complicated lock of the palace's entrance that Viktor lock-picked in the beginning of the pilot episode animatic. In addition, the group walks through a wall to exit the palace's labyrinth which most likely is the cause of magic.
Development[]
Not much is known about the development of the Griffon's Palace, but there is concept art. According to one of the concept artists, they were asked to combine Grecco-Roman and Dwarven architecture for the Griffon's Palace.
Information[]
It's assumed that the inhabitants of the Griffon's Palace were griffons, mythological creatures with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and an eagle's talons as its front feet. In the pilot episode animatic, the palace, with the exception of the Skeletons, seems to have been uninhabited and abandoned for quite some time.
The exact cause of the griffons' disappearance is unknown but could be hinted at by Kanikus. In the pilot episode animatic, Kanikus proudly mentions that he wrote the history of the Griffon's Palace, then says it was terrible. This suggests a number of terrible things could've happened in the history of the palace like war, famine, epidemic, etc. that could've contributed to the griffons' disappearance and might even explain why there are so many skeletons scattered around the area.
Appearances[]
The Griffon's Palace was featured in the trailer and the pilot episode animatic of True Tail.
Trivia[]
- The Griffon's Palace was previously known as the Water Castle in most concept art most likely because of the abundance of water at the site.
